Re: Chest's DOOM night
cant wait till another night like that. And it was nice to see everyone helping each other out with everything. I thought Mr Rockwell was going to keel over at one point due to stress, but once i heard you had broke even you soon cheerd up.
I was laughing at the young kids that came in, and were saying "the next band is gonna be better i promise" then left, then came back in and said the same thing again. ha.

Re: Chest's DOOM night
T'was a really cool night, thanks again Chest. I reckon next year will be rammed.
Atomck did it for me - the second half of their set was genius! I would have bought their cd's which looked well nice but i'm poor at the moment. Black Cesar's new stuff sounded killer too so I look forward to their album.
My ears are still ringing which probably means I've finally got the old tinnitus, I knew it would get me in the end.
At least I can say I fucked my hearing up at Doomfest '08!

Re: Chest's DOOM night
heh!
thanks all, it was a great success mainly cos
1. i covered costs (wouldnt have minded a 20 quid hit or so, but didnt wanna be down 50 quid or more!)
2. bands all had a bit of petrol money
3. everyone seemed to have a ball! (and the sound and all the bands were fucking tight!!!)
so job totally done!! im thrilled that everyone helped and it went off so swimmingly. we didnt have a huge turnout but it was enough. isnt it funny that of the 6 people i attempted to start two doom bands with in the last year... none of them turned up.
i think i and everyone involved proved that you can do metal/doom/rock with a DIY/hardcore attitude and prove it works. it also goes to show how many people dont give a fuck. all the talk of 'support the scene' and come and shop at Welly's shop, to help the scene.. it's all bollocks. i didnt see ANY of them there. these were all welsh, local bands, so where was the 'scene' support?
it's all self serving bullshit really and im glad my hopes and plans were easily filled by the good people that you all are, and the bands that played and the people that came. extra respect to Chi for encouragement, gear lending, driving and putting in more publicity effort than I did!!
Great Work everyone!

Aye you're right there. If Noel didn't go there must have been a decent reason, nobody can say that he's not a supporter.

On the chestfest myspace he states quite clearly that he already has commitments, and that he's bigging it up in buzz as a pennance.
It was nice to re-meet folks from the forums more properly this time.

I'm chuffed as fuck with that, excellent job and exactly what I had in mind! damn fucking shame so many others are too bastard lazy to come and get DOOMed. Still, that makes it all the better for those that did! and my thanks again!!

Re: Chest's DOOM night
no, the "he states quite clearly" one :p
i must have skipped that bit on SWM. i'd never lightly criticise Noel, despite his occasional picking on me on SWM. when he disagrees with me, it weighs heavily against me, and makes me double and triple re-think my thoughts and methods (methods being just rambling for effect). though i do think that he is wrong sometimes (the sword sound like Orange Goblin and not HoF??!) and also avoids any direct giving of opinion in favour of 'reviewing' what others are saying. however, i utterly respect him and his wealth of knowledge/appreciation of music. he's put some fucking awesome bands on, Melt Banana being one of the best, best gigs i've been to. took a few friends and blew all our minds!
his skillz have never been so well played that in the review. nice bit of work there. if i'd seen it i'd have used it!

Re: Chest's DOOM night
The next Doomfest should feature Ghast, for sure. Me and chi have been practicing some of my stuff, too...
Also, I reckon there should be more local bands covering other local band's songs (eg: Atomck's punishing version of "Shit Shaped").

Re: Chest's DOOM night
I back that idea too.
it'd have to be in Le Pub though cos otherwise it'd be a big hit... cos you just know no fucker is gonna turn up!!

How come you've had such difficulty in getting a band started? we should do a SDK collective as an opener for next years Doomfest!

Re: Chest's DOOM night
personality differences!
if anyone needs a bass player to play slow and heavy, open and chuggy, pentagram-y type shit.
but dont fucken say 'yes' when you mean 'oh my cat hurt it's toe', or 'i just have to spend 4 hours getting my 20 pedals to work'.
bbeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen there, ddooooooooooooooooooooone that!!!!
