I have been going over it for sometime now that i will buy a record player, just becasue in 02 i listend to Dark Side Of The Moon in full on 12" after some herbal medication and thought, "fuck".

and then the other day over at Chi's pad he layed down some "Sleeps Holy Mountain" and i have to say it sounded amazing, so I went looking in my father old vinal collection only to find some (mostly prog) gems...

Meddle (I have two copies on 12" for some reason) - Pink Floyd
Piper at the Gates of Down - Floyd
Autobahn - Kraftwork
Johnny Cash - The (something like awsome or marvelous) Johnny Cash
and alot of Shit by Yes, ELO, Mike Oldfield and Slade....

but yeah, I might have to put some money towards one.

Do it.
I really love vinyl for two reasons:

1) I can find dodgy old prog down the car boot for cheap

2) I like having the nice big artwork- gives me an enhanced sense of ownership in these days of downloads.

of course then you will need a nice fat amp, then some speakers.... dare I say for the prog some rad cans?

but yeah, where would be the best place to get one on the cheap that will work? thing is i dont want a fancy Dj one, just a straight up record player that works

word of warning: if you get anything old then at some point the belt is going to give out, and you are going to suffer trying to replace it. This has happened to me twice....
Gets yourself a nice fully manual record player, none of this dj rubbish.

yeah i didnt know if a belt drive or a direct drive was best, but as long as the fucker works i dont care. one thing is there is soo much good vinal out there and me having no money SUCKS!

On the topic of vinal i just checked out what Rise Above had to over and there are a shit load of good vinal there, new Atavist, plus i really want to get Dopethrone by Electric Wizard, and im on the case with getting a record player some OK ones on Ebay for cheap, mind you before buying one i might head donw to the diff to check out any in second hand shops.

It does look stunning.

on the local underground vibe, i checked out Tom's bar in Trefforest's website today and it says that the venue can be booked any night, so I wonder if we could hire it and have a Metal night (not Metros style) with Super DJ Chest Tong on the wheels of steel? maybe not but still, getting more local Doom/Metal acts together and making more nights supporting bands in that vein is going to raise the profile of South Wales Doom/Black Metal?

We have to figure out how we intend to pay for all this, Chest is really going out on a limb with his gig. Actually I think he should make it into a brand and do gigs regularly (not too regularly).

True, well thats whats i was hoping. Any way it doesnt really matter if it does, you learn from shit like that (if it doesnt go well) but best thing to do is keep trying at it i geuss. I was trying to think what bands we could bring in becasue there are a few fucking awsome UK bands, + there are more and more poping up around Wales, so who knows.

There isnt really a need i geuss to look to far into the future, but if everything DOES go to plan i hope its the start of somethign really good, Im just done with seeing all the Hardcore bands getting all the praise, wheres the Metal!!!! Twisted Evil

I'm sure Damaged would sell the Taint LP.
I've picked up some sweet records at car boots, and there's always half decent (according to them) players that you can pick up for next to nothing.

cheers! fug it innit. hopefully i;ll cover some or most of the costs like, but... gotta be done innit. I only need 30 paying punters at a Fiver and i've covered my costs. Should be able to do that. I facken hope. Just tell all your mates and tell em guestlist will be for the Xmas special, summer show is pay or feck off!! hahaha!

I'm not hating, but damaged is only open when Mars and Jupiter are aligned.. also the one time I found myself in Cardiff on a Saturday and went in I was kind of disappointed.. I've never been into hardcore punk so there was very little for me there.
Also, if/when I buy it I'll buy if form the band, that way THEY get the money and not rise above.
